Driving Lessons

I think it may be time for driving lessons when your 2 year old crashes the "new" car.

When Andy went away to college he bought my sister in law, Chelsa's, car. Then when he went on his mission he sold it to his mom for a run around car, and later she sold it to Francom's. They've had it ever since and just recently decided to sell it, and we just happened to be in the market for an older little vehicle for Andy to be able to drive to work. So we bought the Altima back! Dodger thinks it's the neatest thing he's ever seen! He always wants to go play in "daddy's new car". The first day we brought it home he locked himself in, but we just talked him through finding the unlock button and opening the door. But the other day his playing in the "new car" became a little more scary!

Andy was replacing a door in our kitchen that leads out onto the back porch, and Bronx and I were out there with him when all of a sudden we heard a super loud crash. We both looked at each other and Andy said "what was that?" Then we both took off running for the garage where we found Dodger climbing out of the car that had been previously parked outside of the garage and was now parked in it! He had climbed in and turned the key, which shouldn't have started because it's a manual car and the clutch should have to be in, but apparently that has been disabled and he was able to start the car and it rolled through the garage, over his new bike, over a folding table and into my snow cone trailer! He also broke the grill on the car. Luckily he hit the trailer or else he would have gone all the way through the garage and we could have had an even bigger mess, and even more lucky that HE was OK and nothing happened to him! We were so thankful that the damages were only minor, that all we could do was laugh. He however did not think it was funny! He was so upset! Mostly because he'd run over his new bike that he got for his birthday, but I think it really scared him too. About 20 minutes after it happened I took him in to go to the bathroom and he just started bawling, and all he could say was "MY NEW BIKE!" Which grandpa Black promised to help him fix so he could still ride it.

Andy took him over to his parents house to tell them what happened and all they could do was laugh and tell him that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Apparently Andy did the same thing to his parents when he was Dodger's exact same age. Only they were in EUROPE! They had bought a new VW van to use while they were there on vacation and then were going to have it shipped back to the US when it was time to go home. They were staying at their friends house and the van was parked in the garage. That's where Andy found it and drove it through the wall! His damages were worse than ours, so we can consider ourselves lucky.

He's so sad!
