New York: Day 4 - The LONG Drive Home

Day 4:  We headed out to the Peter Whitmer Farm in Fayette, NY, and along the way we found a stand selling pumpkins for a lot better of a price than the pumpkin patch we went to.  The boys each picked out their favorite and we loaded them in the car for Halloween.  Dodger picked the biggest he could find, and Bronx picked the smallest :)

We finally made our way to the Whitmer Farm.  Luckily the visitor center was open even though it happened to be Conference Weekend.

And it just so happens that we happened to be in New York at the prettiest time of the year!!  All of the trees were gorgeous colors of reds, oranges, yellows and greens.  I couldn't get enough of it.

We stopped at a little Amish stand along the road to get some goodies for our drive home.  Andy's parents were regulars at this place and knew the people by name.  They were so nice and made super yummy cookies.  They wouldn't let us take pictures of them, but said that we could take a picture of the boys next to their buggy.

The boys couldn't get enough of their grandma and grandpa.  They soaked up every minute of their time, and loaded up on hugs and kisses.

That same day we started our very, very long drive home, around 2,300 miles!!! Andy's mom bought a new car while they were out there so we volunteered to drive it home for them, so they could both ride home together and pull their camp trailer.

We wanted to stop off in Kirtland to look at the Temple and look around. It was pretty cold and the boys were grumpy so we didn't get to do much.  But we at least saw it.

We then went to the Visitors Center there and took a little tour of the Newel K. Whitney Store, the Ashery, and the Sawmill.  Then we loaded back into the car and set out to find our first motel room for the trip.  We thought it was going to be super easy, but we ended up not finding one until about 9:30.  I was starting to get worried because everything was booked up, or really far off of the Freeway.  But we were lucky enough to find one, and it even had a f

The next day we woke up bright and early and started driving.  We had to make a few stops along the way to get out and stretch.  Whether it be at a gas station to run around, or a space museum to look at the rockets, we tried to make it at least kind of fun for the kids.  Andy and I passed the time by seeing how many different States we could find on license plates, our grand total was 43!  And, of course, our kids were AWESOME!!!  I don't know how we got so lucky, but they are the best travelers.  We watched a lot of movies, and ate a lot of snacks.  And don't worry we did have a few moments of melt downs, but all in all they were awesome.

We made sure that each night we had a pool for the boys to swim in, and a free breakfast the next day.  We would try to get to the motel early so we could play around for a little while, and let the kids not be in their car seats.

We had such an awesome time, it was the best trip.  The best part being that we were able to see Andy's parents and see what their lives had consisted of for the last few months.  I'm so happy we went, I would recommend it to anyone!
